Potential government scrutiny of Christian school curriculums in the Netherlands
Christian schools in the Netherlands have for a long time received financial support to establish and maintain their schools. Until recently they have been free of government interference as to how and what they teach their children. This allowance is under increased scrutiny in an increasingly secularized society. Pressure already has been placed on the schools in prescribing what should be covered in their curriculum. Discussions in the government are now underway to analyze how subjects are taught. There is fear that the teachings of Creation, human sexuality, and family life will be placed under increased government scrutiny to see if they conform to what is considered to be the common thoughts in society today.
