New Church Building
Corsica, South Dakota
Tuesday evening, September 4, 2007, was an historic occasion for the congregation of Corsica, South Dakota. On that evening the congregation gathered together on the property where they hope to build their new church, D.V. At the opening of the gathering, the members were asked to sing Psalter 368, and the Lord’s indispensable blessing was requested upon this large undertaking. Rev. Adams then read Psalm 132 and spoke some appropriate words relating to the occasion, using as his text verse 8, “Arise, O LORD, into Thy rest; Thou, and the ark of Thy strength.” Before leaving the building site, the oldest member of the consistory, Mr. Cornie Blom, and Mr. Andy Spaans, representative of the building committee, made a symbolic beginning to the construction by turning over two shovels of dirt. The congregation then went to their existing church building for a regular service to further implore the Lord’s blessing upon this weighty undertaking.
The text for the evening was Ezra 3:11&12. The theme of the message was “The laying of the foundation of the second temple.” Rev. Adams used the following four points to bring the message: 1. a blessed unity; 2. a necessary altar; 3. a profound rejoicing; and 4. a sorrowful weeping.
The wish and prayer was expressed that it would please the Lord to fulfill for us and our dear children in the midst of the congregation and the community, in this dark and evil time, that which the prophet Haggai prophesied regarding the building of the second temple. Of that prophecy we read in Chapter 2:9, “The glory of this latter house shall be greater than the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.” May the necessity be felt to pray unceasingly and fervently for the work of the Holy Spirit to make room for the Mediator Jesus Christ in the hearts of many sinners as the way to the Father, to the coming of His kingdom, and to the glory of His great and worthy name.
