Curatorium Announcement

We inform the consistories and congregations that the annual meeting of the Curatorium is scheduled for Wednesday, May 17, 2006, the Lord willing. The purpose of the meeting is to hear those who have received a consistorial attest for the calling either as a minister or as a missionary-minister.

If among the male members of our denomination there are those who may believe that the Lord has called them from spiritual death in Adam to spiritual life in Christ and then also called them to preach His holy Word, each should contact his local consistory. In the case of a vacant congregation, the consistory should inform their moderator, as his presence is required at the meeting in which the member presents himself to his consistory for a hearing.

Upon a favorable decision by the consistory regarding what they have heard, their clerk should notify the clerk of the Curatorium. A questionnaire will then be sent to the consistory; this questionnaire is to be completed and returned as promptly as possible to the clerk of the Curatorium. The completed form is to be returned no later than the first week of May.

Dear members of consistories and congregations, how weighty is the matter of the sacred ministry of Word and sacraments! We read in God’s Word of the difference between the prophets who were called by Him and those who were not (see Deuteronomy 13:1-3 and 18:20; Jeremiah 14:13-16 and 29:8-9; and Micah 3:5-7). We are also told of the harm done by those who functioned as false apostles, although they pretended to be true apostles (see Matthew 7:15, 24:11, and 24:24; 2 Corinthians 11:13; 2 Peter 2:1; 1 John 4:1; and Revelation 2:2).

Take time to read these texts in your Bible. Is there then not a reason to bow our knees in our inner chambers and to call upon the name of the Lord for His so necessary guidance and help, which from our side is so undeserved? Although the times in which we and our children live today are dark, indeed, in spiritual matters, are extremely dark, yet His hand is not shortened that it cannot redeem (Isaiah 20:2 and 59:1).

The last time a person was accepted at our Curatorium to become a student was in 2001. It would be a matter of true gladness and a great cause for sincere humiliation if this might happen again. To that end the Curatorium and the theological instructors commend themselves to your concerns and supplications. “I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the Lord, keep not silence” (Isaiah 62:6).
