The Son of God Became Man

2 minuten leestijd Arcering uitzetten

He was God from eternity, before He became flesh (John 1:1; 17:5). In the fullness of time He became man, out of men, but without sin. Very man He was, both becau.se He had a soul and body, and because He belonged to our human rate, being one of us.

a) He had a soul and body. Without these He would not be a true man. In the garden of Gethsemane He complained, “My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death” (Matthew 26:38). He bore our sins in His own body on the tree(l Peter 2:24).

b) His being born out of man also belongs to ! lis being truly man.

Luke 2 describes clearly for us that Christ is the fully developed fruit of Mary - her flesh and blood. Thus His conception also belongs to His incarnation, in which we notice the formation of the human nature, that nature being assumed, and its personal union with His Divine nature. Thus He has become a partaker of flesh and blood (Hebrews 2:14). Not only before, but also after His resurrection, He showed Himself to be a true man (Luke 24:39). He was subject to all human emotions. He was weary (John 4:6). He was hungry (Matthew 4:2). He was thirsty (John 19:28). He wept at the grave of Lazarus (John 11:35). He was glad (lohn 11:15). He became very man. “Much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many” (Romans 5:15). “The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit” (1 Corinthians 15:45). The man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5).
