CURATORIUM ANNOUNCEMENT
The Curatorium hopes to meet on June 25, 1991, at 9 A.M. in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the Lord willing, with those who may have received a consistorial attest with respect to either a ministerial or a ministerial-missionary calling. Any male member of our denomination who feels the Lord has called him to the office of minister or missionary, should contact his consistory. Upon such a request, the consistories of vacant churches should notify their moderator for counsel prior to granting attestation. The consistory who grants a consistorial attest should forward it to the clerk of the Curatorium prior to May 15, 1991.
Rev. John den Hoed
824 18th Avenue S
Rock Valley, Iowa 51247
A list of questions will then be sent to the consistory for completion. May the Lord gladden us with His deeds in 1991 by sending into His vineyard those who in time to come may stand as watchmen upon the walls of Zion. May He graciously remember the many vacant congregations, give unto the officebearers courage and stedfastness in His Word. May He bind all of us unto His Word and give
that this Word may be fruitful in our midst, to the glory of His holy Name and the salvation of lost sinners.

The Best Friend
There is a Friend, who sticketh fast,
And keeps His love from first to last,
And Jesus is His Name;
An earthly brother drops his hold,
Is sometimes hot and sometimes cold,
But Jesus is the same.
A method strange this Friend has shown,
Of making love divinely known
To rebels doomed to die;
Unasked, He takes our humblest form,
And condescends to be a worm,
To lift us up on high.
The law demanded blood for blood,
And out He lets His vital flood
To pay the mortal debt;
He toils thro’ life, and pants thro’ death,
And cries, with His expiring breath,
’Tis finish’d, and complete!

CURRENT EVENTS
INFORMATION
Characteristics of Children Involved in Satanism
At a recent Concerned Women of America conference, Bill Reisman, law enforcement consultant, described common characteristics found in children either experimenting with or involved in the occult, especially Satanism. These include: low self-esteem (most significant); physically awkward; loner (doesn’t fit into any contemporary or peer group); non-competitive, becoming very aggressive; secretive, isolated, alienated; loss of sense of humor; gender confusion; very intelligent but underachieving; usually middle to upper class; usually resident of suburban or rural area, often near a college or university; artistic, yet bored; involved with fantasy games like “Dungeons and Dragons”; skilled with computers; drug use, often LSD and other hallucinogens; depressive personality and poor coping skills; changes in bedroom atmosphere — pentagram (five-point star in circle) on the floor, books like The Satanic Bible or The Satanic Rituals; self-mutilation (drawing blood for sacrifices); wearing of black clothes with silver jewelry; adoption of new name; writing backwards; possession of “Book of Shadows” — notebook with writings, drawings, curses, spells, suicide pacts, focusing on death; hateful stare.
He suggested that the best preventive, humanly speaking, is involving children in worthwhile activities, especially church and/or service related. Examples include visiting nursing homes, using artistic talents to conduct workshops for younger children, etc. May the Lord remember us, as our hearts are naturally drawn to the service of the Prince of Darkness.
Orthodox Israeli Jews Seeking New Laws
The January Christian World Report describes efforts by Orthodox members of the Israeli Knesset (ruling body) to ban suggestive advertising, outlaw most abortions, restrict public transportation on the Sabbath, and forbid the sale of pork throughout the country. It is reported that about 70% of Israeli Jews are considered “non-observant”, meaning they do not live out the Jewish Biblical or traditional laws. Public protests, which are something of a rarity in Israel, have begun.
New Research on AIDS Transmission
Researchers from the Centers for Disease Control have recently warned that health care workers should take added precautions to avoid contact with infected mucous membranes (eyes, nose, mouth) and skin contact with infected body fluids or lesions.
Obituary notices are printed free of charge and are submitted by the officiating minister; marriage and anniversary notices will be charged at $5.00 per issue and must be individually submitted. Other announcements and/or requests will be approved by the editorial committee on an individual basis as received. (Church events or school needs, such as upcoming classical meetings, “teachers wanted,” office-bearer conferences or youth day conferences will be announced free of charge.)
To place an announcement, simply type (or print neatly) your information, enclose $5.00, and forward to “News and Events,” 2115 Romence St., N.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49503 by the 5th of the month preceding publication.
