Bible Quiz
Dear Boys and Girls,
This month we again have a crossword puzzle for you. It is based on Lord’s Day 8 of the Heidelberg Catechism. This Lord’s Day speaks to us about the Holy Trinity. Do you know what that means?
The word “Trinity” means three in one, and points to the God of heaven and of earth. Three in one is something very hard to be understood by boys and girls, but it is also impossible to be understood by men and women. In the Belgic Confession it is said that God is incomprehensible, meaning that our minds cannot understand such a great God. This is true in regard to who He is and what He does.
The question might be asked, just as the Catechism does, “Why do we speak of God as one God, but yet of three Persons?” The answer given us says it so simply, “It is because God has so revealed Himself in His Word.” God shows us something of Himself in the Bible, and we are to believe what He says, even if we cannot understand how this can be. One of our church creeds, the Athanasian Creed, teaches us about the Trinity. We hope you will take time to read it for yourself. (You can find it in the back of the new Psalter.)
As before, some of the answers will be found in the texts which are listed in the margin of the Catechism in the back of the Psalter. Those that do are marked with an asterisk (*). Be sure to notice that the entire chapter of Genesis 1 is listed among them, and therefore a number of answers will be found in that chapter. Then too the Psalter lists John 1:13, but we believe it should be John 1:14. The Catechism says in another place that we must “learn rightly to know the only true God,” and it is our prayer that the Lord may teach us this together. It was once the prayer of the Highland kitchen maid, “Lord, show me Thyself,” and it pleased the Lord to answer her prayer. Perhaps you know this story. May you also learn to pray for that blessing.

Again there are letters to be answered:
Suzanne Vandenbosch
The zoo is always an interesting place to visit, Suzanne. In Genesis 1 we read that God made the beast and cattle and every thing that creepeth after his kind. A zoo can only have a few of the many different kinds which exist, and we must then pause to realize the wonders of creation in the animal world. That is only a small part of the total creation.
Jolene Slingerland
In Michigan we have had a very minimal amount of snow this winter, Jolene. It is true, however, that there are some weeks of winter left as I write this. Yes, we feel much more involved when we have a relative in the war area. Although they are in great danger there, we know that the Lord is able to protect them and therefore to Him we must turn.
Derek Kreft
We have been looking each month for the news of the new arrivals, Derek. How we must often be brought to realize that the Lord controls all in His hand. As little children we have been taught to bring our needs and troubles unto Him. When things seem impossible, then we must, whether old or young, also learn, “To whom else shall we go?”
Brian Den Hertog
The dedication of a new church building is a very special occasion for a congregation, Brian. We read that at the dedication of the temple by King Solomon, the glory of the Lord filled the Lord’s house. It must be our prayer that this may also take place at times in your new church building. The poet said, “O Lord, I need Thy presence,” and we hope this may also be the need of many in your congregation, both young and old.
Karin Bertram
You are going to be a busy family for a while, Karin, but there will also be lots of things for you to do to help your mother. Whether they are boys or girls isn’t the most important. We hope that the Lord may make things well. Are you good at taking care of babies? You will have opportunity to become an expert if all goes well.
Jonathan Arnoldussen
Did you have good travelling conditions on your trip to Chilliwack, Jonathan? Even if the weather is favorable when you start, it can turn around so quickly. We see this also when Paul was travelling to Rome. We first read that the south wind blew softly, but the next verse reads, “But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind.”
Cindy Kreft
The winter months will soon be behind us again, Cindy, and the piles of snow will soon melt away under the rays of the sun. It is a reminder to us of our cold and hard hearts which need another Sun to warm and soften them. Even though it seems so impossible in the winter time, it is yet possible by an almighty power.
Charmain Huisman
There are three letters from you this month, Charmain. It must be that the mailman held them up. How did the mid-term exams turn out for you? One-half of the school year is already behind you. We speak often about time, but it is also true that if flies away. The Bible says that there is a time to every purpose, and then Solomon listed many purposes which came to mind. We must always remember how precious time is.
Jeremy Bertram
Do you go for a ride in the Model-T sometimes, Jeremy? What year is it? Automobiles have certainly changed since they first came out, but we can also say that of almost everything we have around us in our homes and businesses. The Lord Jesus said to Nlcodemus that a change must also take place with people. Do you know what it is?
Michelle Van Der Brink
Is everyone in your family feeling better again, Michelle? The flu usually lasts just a few days, but it certainly isn’t pleasant to have it? Were there quite a few at school who had it? It often is passed from one person to another. It sounds like there is lots to do on your farm, and with animals they need attention every days.
This finishes the letters again for this time. Our thanks to all the boys and girls for the answers to the quiz. God’s Word is as the seed which is planted in the springtime of your lives, and it is our prayer that the Lord may cause the seed which is sown to spring forth, as we read in Isaiah 61. We look forward to hearing from you again next month.
