BIBLE QUIZ
Dear Boys and Girls,
The quiz this month is about rest and sleep. These two words are well-known words, and we also find them quite often in the Bible. For example, we read that the Lord, the Keeper of Israel, never slumbers or sleeps. Although He rested from His works of creation, day and night "His eyes behold the children of men." Adam and Eve could not hide from Him, and Jonah could not flee from His presence. God sees, God hears, God knows what takes place on earth, even in the darkness of night.
It is so different for us. We can be very tired after a busy day, and a good night's sleep makes us feel much re-freshed. If we climb a high hill or take a long hike, we are glad to see a resting place along the way. In sickness or when there are problems in our lives, we can find it difficult to sleep and have trouble finding rest. Once when the disciples heard the message which was sent to the Lord Jesus that Lazarus was sick, Jesus told them that Lazarus was sleeping. Their answer was, "If he sleeps, he shall do well." It was a sign of recovery, so they thought, although Jesus was actually speaking of his death. It is true that for God's people, death is but a sleep, as we can read of Stephen, but the disciples did not understand His meaning.
The rich man, who had gathered together many possessions and planned to build larger barns, thought he could now rest from his labor, and said to himself, "Soul, take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry." How foolish he was to rest in those things, for he had to leave them all behind! A good night's sleep is a blessing, a rest can be refreshing, but there is a rest different than these. It is that rest of which the Lord Jesus spoke, saying "Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." How blessed are those who find their rest in Him!

Again I shall answer some of the letters received:
Trevor Aleman
Do you also play the organ, Trevor? We read in Cod's Word that young David was a cunning player on an harp, but also that the Lord was with him. It is not necessary to ask as to which of these is the greater blessing.
johnny Den Hertog
How do you like your new home, Johnny? In Bible times there were those who lived in tents, and these were their homes. But I also read of a man who lived with his two daughters in a cave, and that was their home. Do you know who that was?
Gerrit Neels
We also had rain today, Gerrit, and the sun only appeared for a short time. Rain is also so necessary, even though we don't always find it so agreeable when it does rain, especially when we have plans to be outside. The Bible tells us that rain is given us by the Lord, and who are we to say, "What doeth Thou?"
Adrienne, Christine, & Neal Mijnders
I have been in Burgessville, so I do know where it is. Are you on the main street? Kalamazoo is somewhat larger, that is certain. Have you ever been in Kalamazoo? There was a time when everyone lived in one place and were building a tower there. Do you know the story?
Jaron Kyle Vande Hoef
It was nice to receive your long letter, Jaron. It would be rather difficult for us to publish the Banner of Truth every week, but we are glad to hear that you look forward to receiving it. What are you studying about at present in Bible at school? Do you have quizzes there also?
Joleen Lynn Droge
Our snow has all disappeared, Joleen, with the exception of some piles where plows scraped it together. But the newspaper predicts some snow again tonight, so possibly tomorrow the ground will be completely covered again.
Coreen and Peter Van Hemert
Is your new house finished? Will you have animals on your farm? We read that the prophet Elijah moved from one place to another, but he could carry all his possessions. How very different that is today when we move!
Stella Schouten
It is good to hear that churches are growing, Stella. Often today there is in certain churches a problem with declining attendance. I am certain this is a problem in New Zealand as well as in the United States and Canada.
Cindy Kreft
The crocus is sometimes called the harbinger of spring, Cindy, so it is a good sign when they appear. In the Song of Solomon we also read about the signs of spring; in fact, there are several mentioned. Do you know what they are?
Sara Van Pagee
Your answer as to who knew the Scriptures from his youth was good, Sara, but not the one I was thinking of. We also read of another person who told the prophet of the Lord that he feared the Lord from his youth. Do you know who that was?
Julia Neels
Are you taking good care of your little sister, Julia? In the Bible we also read about a girl who was given the task of watching over her little brother? Do you know who that was? What grade is your father going to teach?
Philip Schouten
What subjects are you studying in school this year, Philip? I am sure some are more difficult than others, but that can also be because we find one more interesting than the other. Or do you find them all quite easy?
Jaco & Bryan De Visser
Did you find the quiz to be as easy this month? I sometimes wonder if some might find them too difficult and become discouraged. Some searching should be necessary, since only in that way do we learn to know the Bible.
Derek Kreft
How are you doing with your chariot construction, Derek? After some practice you might have to go in business. In the Bible we read of chariot wheels which came off, but I don't believe it was due to poor construction. Do you know of what occasion I am thinking?
Sarah Brunia
It was nice to receive your letter, Sarah, and to have you join in answering the Bible quiz. Each time the quiz will seem to be somewhat easier. Do you have brothers or sisters? I will be looking for your next letter, D.V.
Leona Vanden Brink
Our congratulations and best wishes to your brother and his wife, Leona. It is hard to believe that boys and girls who once answered the Bible quiz are now married, and some even have children who are now answering the quizzes.
Remco Funcke
Your letter is the last one this time, Remco. I did not quote the text exactly in the one which you questioned, but the name Ishmael was not in the text. We are glad that you observed this, as it shows you are reading it carefully. In many texts each word can be of much importance.
Many thanks, boys and girls, for your answers again this month. May the Lord spare and protect us to meet here again next month as we study the Word of God together in this way.
With love,
Your friend,
"Uncle Garret"
WAITING ON GOD
Is thy God able? (Daniel 6:20.)
Thou servant of the living God,
Whilst lions round thee roar,
Look up and trust and praise His Name,
And all His ways adore;
For even now, in peril dire,
He works to set thee free,
And in a way known but to Him,
Shall thy deliverance be.
Dost wait while lions round thee stand?
Dost wait in gloom, alone
And looking up above thy head
See but a sealed stone?
Praise in the dark! Yea, praise His name,
Who trusted thee to see
His mighty power displayed again
For thee, His saint, for thee.
Thou servant of the living God,
Thine but to wait and praise;
The living God, Himself, will work,
To Him thine anthem raise;
Though undelivered thou dost wait,
The God who works for thee,
When His hour strikes, will with a word
Set thee for ever free.

"Believe ye that I am able to do this?" "Yea, Lord."
A PRESENT FAVORITE
Someone asked a famous God-fearing musician, "What is your favorite composition?"
The answer was, "Whatever I am playing."
So should it ever be with all God-glorifying activities. "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with all thy might" (Eccl. 9:10). The present is the golden moment.
