“AIDS” (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome)

For the past months there has hardly been a daily issue of the paper that did not have one or more articles related to the dreaded disease, “AIDS.” What is it and how is it transmitted? The disease is caused by a virus, virtually unknown till 1980, which attacks and eventually destroys the immune system of one’s body. Without a defense system, bacteria, virus, chemicals and micro-organisms can enter the body and destroy one’s life supporting organs without any resistance.

Though there is much to be learned concerning this new venereal disease, it appears that AIDS is generally transmitted through body fluids. The most common is immoral sexual behavior, either homosexual or heterosexual promiscuity. Other known ways of transmittal are blood transfusions, saliva, tears or other body fluids of an infected individual. The plague will have a catastrophic effect upon America and the whole world, for up to now the disease has been classified 100% fatal. Some authorities have estimated that 20-25% of the U.S. population could die within 12 years as a result of this disease.

Why must an article such as this be placed in our church paper? We are part of this people who have so grossly transgressed God’s laws and statutes. Immorality is also increasing within church walls. God’s Word carries so little authority in our lives. Some tread the seventh commandment underfoot as being outdated, following the humanistic theory of self-gratification. All fornication, adultery or uncleanness, committed while single or in holy wedlock, are accursed of God and will be severely punished in this world and the world to come unless there is a forsaking of sin and a true repentance to God. Flee from all uncleanness and fornication. “Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them the members of a harlot? God forbid” (1 Cor. 6:15).

Natural man lives for himself, particularly in sexuality. True love, as God has created man, is giving of one’s self to satisfy the needs and desires of the one dearest to you. Self-gratification is the very opposite of true love. God has instituted marriage and also protects His divine ordinance. God’s direct judgments are pronounced against the infraction of the seventh commandment, “Thou shalt not commit adultery.” This is evidenced by venereal diseases (AIDS being one of them) brought upon those who transgress his commandments. AIDS is not the greatest venereal disease sweeping the country.

Read the whole chapter of Leviticus 18 where God forbids all acts of immorality. Quoting verses 24-28, “Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants. Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations: neither any of your own nations, nor any stranger that so-journeth among you: (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;) that the land spew not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spewed out the nations that were before you.”

May God’s Word, through the irresistible power of the Holy Spirit humble us before Him and that there may be a godly sorrow over sin, a repentance not to be repented of, seeking forgiveness through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon” (Is. 55:7). ?
