BIBLE QUIZ
Dear Boys and Girls,
Many times we hear it said, Thats impossible. Whats impossible? We quickly say that something is impossible, and it is true that there are many things impossible for us. But as we read Gods Word, we read of many things which took place that were thought to be impossible. Well mention a few of them.
Think first of creation; wouldnt it seem impossible, if God had not told us of it in His Word? Even today some will not believe it happened in the way the Bible tells it. In the days of Noah, people laughed at and mocked him, saying that such a flood as he spoke of was impossible. The deliverance of the children of Israel from Egypt seemed so impossible. That there would be food and water supplied them in the barren wilderness seemed so impossible. That one who has died should be restored to life seems to be so impossible, but we read that it took place both in the Old and New Testaments. The victory of David over Goliath seemed so impossible. As you can see, we could go on and on.
But the answer to these all is found in the words of the Lord Jesus. He said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.
There is one other apparent impossibility of which I am thinking. When Adam and Eve were driven out of the garden because of their sin, the Lord Himself placed Cherubims and a flaming sword to bar the way to the tree of life. Now it was no longer possible to expect anything but continual death. There was no hopeor was there?
Adam and Eve had heard God speak of a seed of the woman, who would bruise the head of Satan. There alone was their hope. But when would he come? Many, many years passed by, and everything seemed so dark and impossible. But in Matthew 2, verse 1, we find six words which changed everything. I have used these six words to spell out the answers to the quiz this month. The Lord again showed that what seemed so impossible was possible with Him. May it be a great wonder, also to us.
Here is the quiz:

And now to answer the letters which we received:
Joleen Lynn Droge
You are having your snow quite early, Joleen. So far we havent seen any snow here, but I am sure it cannot be too far away any more. Your little sister probably gets lots of attention from everyone. What is her name?
Erica Feyter
It was nice to hear from you, Erica, and to have you join in answering the Bible quiz. Yes, we do know your grandparents. Do you live near them? We hope that you may have had a happy birthday, and that you may be blessed with many more of them.
Leona Vanden Brink
Do you study a different reformer each year, Leona? Reformation Day ties most closely to Martin Luther, but each reformer served Gods purpose in the instruction of church and people. Give our greetings to your parents.
Martha Kok
We were glad to receive your answers and letter, Martha. It is nice to see the list of names grow, and to know that all those boys and girls are studying the Word of God. We read in the Bible of a man who was reading his Bible as he travelled in a chariot Do you know who that was?
Matthew Okochi
We thank you for your answers, Matthew. We were not certain if you receive the Banner of Truth every month, but will send you a reply along with the others. According to the map you live in the very southern part of Nigeria. Are you able to attend a church service on Sunday?
Remco Funcke
It was also nice to receive your letter, Remco. It seems that there are a number of new friends this month, and some from far off places. It is helpful if you show where your answer is to be found, since then I know that you have looked them up in your Bible. We hope we may hear from you again next month.
Stephen Sporte
We heard about your accident Stephen. Did it leave a scar? We see again how quickly an accident can happen. There are times when we think of our need of the Lords protecting care, but there are more times that we do not think of it at all.
Sonya Den Boer
We were glad to hear that your sister was out of the hospital, Sonya. It must be a wonder to us that the Lord still gives us so many blessings, since we cannot say that we deserve them. Congratulations to your grandmother on her birthday. She has reached the age of four score years. Do you know where that is spoken of in the Bible?
Chris Vander Brink
Welcome to the Bible quiz, Chris. We read that Timothy knew the scriptures from the time he was a child, and therefore we are also glad to see that the younger ones answer the quiz. Timothy was taught by his mother and grandmother, and I hope that you also have such good teachers.
Trina Van Tol
It is always nice to hear from you, Trina. The Lord still brings the truth to our ears, and it is a much greater blessing if He may bring it into our hearts. How we must ask Him to do this for all our readers, whether they are young or old.
Philip Schouten
Did you receive the letter from your friend Remco, Philip? He said he was writing you. Do you live quite some distance from him? In the Bible we also read of those who had a good friend. Can you name any of them?
Cherie Noorduyn
The Lord Jesus said to the Jews, Search the Scriptures, but He is also saying this to everyone of us. If we are honest, we must admit that we are not busy enough with the Word of God. Did you find that the quiz was easy this time?
Joel Arnoldussen
We also visited Yellowstone National Park a few years ago and saw Old Faithful erupting. It is amazing to see, realizing how regularly it takes place. May we also be given to see something of Him of Whom Jeremiah spoke, when he said, Great is Thy faithfulness.
Ria Nieuwenhuis
It has been so many years ago that I studied Latin in school, Ria, that I have forgotten most of it. What does the name Kunos mean? Be sure to give our greetings to your grandmother and aunt when you write them. We still remember well our visits there.
Nicole Arnoldussen
Do you have lots of snow now, Nicole? We have been reading about the winter storms in the west, so we assume you have also had the snow. Snow is also mentioned a few times in the Bible. Do you know what is said about it?
Joel Stam
How wonderful it is when we have someone to help us in doing things which are difficult for us, Joel. Even older people find this to be true quite often. The Lord also says to us, Call upon Me, Look unto Me, Come unto Me, and He says this also to boys and girls.
Janet Kardux
We were glad to hear that you like the changes that have been made to our Banner of Truth, Janet. Of course, the looks are not the most important, since its content is the main purpose, but we hope that many may read it carefully and pray that it may be a blessing for them.
Stella Schouten
It is sometimes a wonder to us how many boys and girls do the Bible quiz, Stella. But what need there is also in this for the Lords blessing. In your family you have seen how quickly life can come to an end, and then what is it that is really important?
Derek Kreft
Do the coyotes come out during the day, or only at night, Derek? The Bible speaks of some wild animals which were troublesome in those days. Do you know of any that are mentioned? What do you do to keep the coyotes away?
Peter De Boer
How was the corn crop this year, Peter? The farmer is especially dependent upon the sun and the rain at the proper time for good growing conditions. But if we consider it carefully, everyone is dependent upon the providing hand of God in his daily work.
Cindy Kreft
Your letter is the last one this time, Cindy. How are you doing in school this year? I think we came through Calgary when we made our first trip to that part of the country, but that is already quite a few years ago. Say hello to your parents and Adrian, Byron and Reuben.
This finishes our letters for this time, boys and girls. Many thanks for your replies to the quiz. It also brings to an end another year of the Bible quiz. What have we learned? What have we done with it? We would like to say to you that which Paul writes to Timothy, Continue thou in the things which thou hast learned. For all of you and for all of our readers we wish the Lords blessing in the Christmas season and in the year which lies before us. May we be spared together with loved ones from the dangers which are around us and receive from the Lord that which is so necessary for time and eternity.
With love,
Your friend,
Uncle Garret
THE LEANING TREE
It was noticed that the old tree was no longer straight. It had begun to lean badly. People could not help seeing this.
One day the tree fell. And it fell the way it had been leaning. The Bible tells us: As the tree falls, so shall it lie (Eccl. 11:3). We might also add: As the tree leans, so shall it fall.
Which way to you lean?
THE WORLD TODAY
James B. Irwin is the astronaut who landed on the moon in July 1971. On his return, he wrote: God walking on the earth is more important than man walking on the moon. I believe that Cod walked on the earth 2,000 years ago in the Person of Jesus Christ.
ENCOURAGEMENT FOR A SEEKER
Oh, do wait still for Him, do hope still in His mercy! He will save you, not your experience. Seek Him, wait for Him, try and pray to Him. Never mind whether you are like this person or that person, or whether you can stand level with another persons experience. Seek for Christ, and a real knowledge of Him. It will then be your experience.
Perhaps Satan tells you your prayers are an abomination in the sight of God. Do not believe him. The Lord knows you do not want wrong, presumptuous things. He knows you want to know Him, to have Him in your heart, to feel His grace working and ruling in your heart. You may feel even unfit to have any gracious exercise in your heart; but this only shows that there is more room for Christ to work. He is emptying your heart so that He can replace it with more grace. He will give it to you; He has not forsaken you.

A SOLDIER WHO SNEERED AT THE BIBLE
A godly man once distributed a number of French New Testaments to soldiers. One sneered and said it would do to light his pipe.
A year and half later this godly man stayed at an inn in the South of France. The landladys oldest son had just been buried. She spoke of his happy death and said, All his happiness was received from a little book that was given to him sometime ago. When the godly man was shown the little book, he recognized it as the very Testament given to the scoffer. He discovered that five or six of the early pages had been torn out; but on the inside cover, this was written: Given to me on _____; first despised, then read, and finally blessed to the saving of my soul.

READING GODS WORD
When the arrival of the cart which carried the first sacred load of the Scriptures to Wales in 1816, sent by the British and Foreign Bible Society, was announced, the Welsh peasants went out in crowds to meet it. Welcoming it as the Israelites did the ark, they drew it into the town, and eagerly bore off every copy as rapidly as they could be dispersed. The young people were to be seen spending the whole night in reading it. Laborers carried it with them to the field that they might enjoy it during the intervals of their labor, and lose no opportunity of becoming acquainted with its sacred truths. Let those consider this who despise or neglect the Bible; who have it, but seldom open it, or when they do, slumber over it as a record in which they have little or no interest, and soon lay it aside in weariness or disgust.
