7 minuten leestijd Arcering uitzetten

It was nearly eight o’clock on Monday morning, the 30th day of April, that suddenly the cold hand of Death called a dear and loving husband-father-son and brother from his temporal to eternal abode by an apparent heart attack. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 2, conducted by Rev. Den Boer in the presence of a large audience who came to show their love and respect in mourning for the dear departed one. On this occassion Rev. Den Boer chose for his text Isaiah 65:1; “I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts.” Alas! What is man? Our days are as a handbreath. He who was taken from us, reached the age of sixty-one years, eight months and nineteen days. In his life time he passed through troubled waters and many, many fears and much strife that the root of the matter was not found in him, but at other moments also testifying of the Hope of Saving Grace that the Lord had called him from Spiritual Death to Spiritual Life. Formerly, he had faithfully served the congregation of Sioux Center in the capacity of deacon for fourteen years. May the Lord remember especially the mourning widow with her children as well as the old mother who remain behind and all the other relatives and friends. It is our wish and prayer that through this deep way of sorrow the Lord may use it to the conversion of sons and daughters and the up-building of His church in a dark, dark time for His Great name sake.

A REPORTOF THE BANNER OF TRUTH TRACT MISSION TO THE CONGREGATIONS AND HONORABLE BRETHREN DELEGATED TO THE GENERAL SYNOD OF 1984

Due to my age, my late surgery, and present weakness, I reluctantly request the acceptance of my resignation from the position I was appointed twelve years ago by Classis East and West as the author and tract distributor of our congregations.

Our beginning was small, printing 10,000 tracts of the first number. This was soon increased as the demand grew larger, as we presently print 30,000 to 40,000 of each number. We did not buy a mailing list; the demand came from the readers and tract distributors. To date, we have printed more than two (2) million, seven hundred thousand tracts. The greatest demand comes from foreign countries, where we have a hst of over one thousand readers and tract distributors. Most of the tracts have been translated into foreign languages. It has been my privilege to see that the Lord’s most worthy Name has been sent to many nations.

Domestically, we mail tracts to colleges, universities, prisons, tract readers, distributors, and various contributors. Many readers have expressed a spiritual blessing upon perusal of the tracts. In addition, by means of this tract distribution, we have been invited to attend the Chaplain’s meeting at the Kent County jail. Upon learning that the inmates each received a false translation of the Bible, we, with the approval of the General Mission and the Trinitarian Bible Society, offered them the King James Verson without charge. This was gladly accepted.

My years of retirement turned out to be the busiest years of my life. The administration and the answering of many letters occupied my time along with the writing of tracts. I would like to acknowledge the help of Mr. Kris Wintrs and Mrs. Henry (Sue) Keizer, of the Grand Rapids Congregation. They have helped me in the past five years with administrative duties.

HITHERTO THE LORD has graciously helped us. May He bring us in humility before Him, pardon all which was amiss, and extend His blessings upon His own work. This work could not have been done without the financial help of the General Mission, the willingness of the congregations, and the many interested readers. Our hearty thanks to all who donated financially or gave of their time. May this work be continued for the extension of the Lord’s Kingdom. We have unsparingly donated our time for this worthy cause.

Elder Jacob De Bruin of Grand Rapids has willingly offered to take charge of the administration of this work so that it may continue.

A copy of the topics of the tracts previously published (about sixty) can be obtained from the Banner of Truth Tract Mission, 540 Crescent Street N.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49503. May the Lord prosper all your deliberations.

Fraternally and respectfully yours,

C.F. Boerkoel, Sr.

FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT FOR RESPONSE TO A POSSIBLE CHURCH IN WESTERN FLORIDA

In the coming months, Classis East hopes to meet in Norwich, Ontario, at which time some definitive decisions relative to the commencement of a church in the area of western Florida may be reached. To date, approximately 15 replies of interest, involving 33 people, have been received. Hence, it is imperative that you respond to this announcement if you have a personal interest in seeing this cause materialize. In your response, state your name and address, and answer the following questions:

1. Would you be interested in residing in Florida if an extension of our church was available for worship? Do you anticipate such residence to be permanant, or only partial, D.V., in a typical annual cycle?

2. Would your interest in a western Florida church extend only to periodic visiting? If so, for how many weeks or months per year would you anticipate desiring to worship with such a proposed church group?

Obviously your answers to these questions place you under no obligations whatsoever; rather, they only serve classical assistance in reaching a decision on the question of proceeding with Sunday reading sermons (1) on a permanent basis, (2) on a partial basis (winter only), or (3) not at all.

You must mail your response by August 15 to Adrian Slootmaker, 604 Pines Lake Dr., Wayne, NJ 07470. May the Lord command and add His blessing.

GOD’S WORD SPEAKS

Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the Law of Christ. Galatian 6:2

Last month I wrote a few lines in regard to the court decision in favor of the former principal of the Norwich Rehoboth Christian School. This now places that congregation with a financial responsibility very difficult and heavy for the congregation to meet. We hope that the Lord may open the hearts of our readers to help with this financial burden. If you desire to do so please send your gifts to the Grand Rapids congregation and I will be glad to forward these funds to the Norwich congregation.
