CURATORIUM

In the Netherlands, the Curatorium met June 11 to 13 and made the following decisions: Eligible for Call:

Mr. A. B. Van der Heiden

Mr. J. De Pater

Mr. M. Golverdingen

Permission to preach in the congregations was given to:

Mr. C. Sonneveld, a student.

Admitted to the Theological School:

Mr. B. Van der Heiden of Dordrecht

Mr. J. C. Meeuwsen of Ridderkerk

It is our hearty wish that the Lord's blessing may rest upon these decisions to the edification of the church of God and to the glorification of His Name.

Our American Curatorium met in Grand Rapids, also on June 12.

Only one member out of the congregations appeared with an attest from his consistory. It was a disappointment that there was no freedom to accept him. For the young man it was also a disappointment, but we hope the Lord will comfort him and show him the way that he must go.

That the great need of our congregations would bind us more and more to the throne of grace. We cannot make ministers, but: Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest that He would send forth laborers into His harvest. Alas, in the Netherlands also there were several, whom after examination, there was no liberty to admit. That it there, and also among us, might bring the church to the right place, including ministers and consistories. The Lord is just, but also merciful and Almighty.

In the name of the Curatorium, Rev. W.C. Lamain and Rev. L. Kieboom

THE REV. J. C. WESTSTRATE

The Rev. Weststrate who accepted the call to 's-Gravenpolder, the Netherlands, is planning to preach his farewell sermon, the Lord willing, on Sunday, August 19, in the afternoon, in the English language.

The following week he hopes to leave with Mrs. Weststrate and their young son. Three of his children will remain in St. Catharines. May the Lord remember him with his family, and fulfil for them Psalm 121; then everything shall be well for time and eternity.

May the Lord remember the consistory and congregation of St. Catharines. He only can fill the empty place with a shepherd and teacher in His favor.

May the service of our brother in the five years he spent in Ontario be unforgettable, and a never-ending blessing! Then the Lord shall receive all the honor and glory.

Thanks for the meditations sent to our church paper! The Editor

MR. LEENDERT DE PATER

On June 1, 1979, Mr. Leendert De Pater, almost 60 years old, died very unexpectedly.

The first four years after the congregation was instituted, at that time in Ottersville, later in Norwich, he served them as elder.

That our life is like a cloud that comes and disappears was evident also in his death. He drove a Schoolbus. He became ill on the bus, and died in that same night.

The Rev. A.M. Den Boer conducted the funeral service. His text was Isa. 65:2.

May the Lord remember the widow with her seven children, both married and unmarried, and strengthen them in all their grief and sorrow.

He sacrificed much time when the congregation was still small, and had to struggle with many cares. Sometimes we stood in the road at night with a car that had to be repaired before we could go any farther.

May the Lord teach us all to die before death comes, and that we may be found and hid in Christ. Then our death shall be an eternal gain.
