REV. C. HEGEMAN TO VISIT THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA

We have received a letter from the Rev. C. Hegeman that he is planning to come with Mrs. Hegeman to the United States and Canada, the Lord willing, from July 13 to August 15. They hope to visit their children, and to serve some of our congregations.

That it may all be in the favor of the Lord is the wish of the Deputies for Correspondence with Foreign Churches.

MR. J. C. DEN HOLLANDER

While he was in the Netherlands, visiting his children, the Lord took away out of this life Mr. Johannes Cornells Den Hollander at the age of 74. He had served the congregation of Peoples Park as a deacon from 1952 to 1955 and from 1961 to 1970. The Moderator of the Franklin Lakes congregation, the Rev. A.M. Den Boer of Norwich conducted the service, and the Rev. J.S. Vander Net, who had visited Mr. Den Hollander during his stay in Utrecht also spoke to the bereaved family and to the friends.

For years Mr. and Mrs. Den Hollander belonged to our congregation in Rotterdam-South, where we as far as I know baptized most of their children.

The Lord is judge, and He brings every man to the place appointed for him from all eternity, and He knows who are His. II Tim 2:19. The Lord strengthen the family, confirming what we read in Ps. 27:10: “When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.” May He teach all of us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. (Ps. 90:12) The Editor

MR. LEONARD BYL

On January 17, 1979, it pleased the Lord to take away Mr. Leonard Byl on the day before his 79th birthday. For 21 years he had served the congregation of Norwich: 2 years as deacon and 19 years as an elder. May the Lord strengthen and comfort his wife who is now a widow, and the children who have lost their dear father. May He sanctify the calling to their hearts, for we must all make that same journey to eternity. May the Lord confirm to the widow Isa. 54:5, and to the children Isa. 66:13.

His pastor, Rev. A.M. Den Boer visited him on the afternoon of January 16, and left for the Netherlands on the following morning, so the Rev. J.C. Weststrate of St. Catharines conducted the funeral service. His text was Isa. 32:2a, “The eyes of them that see shall not be dim.” This text was one of the last words Mr. Byl had spoken.

May the Lord teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. (Ps. 90:12)
