Dear Friends,
Herewith we want to thank everyone for the liberal gifts received for the support of the mission. May the Lord bless you and your gifts. At present Tom and Meta with their two children are visiting in the U.S.A. and Canada. What a blessing for parents, and children, and relatives to be able to meet each other again after almost two years. It is a great blessing of the Lord that they were spared and protected along so many journeys and amongst so many dangers on the mission field. Considering that Meta had been very sick on the mission field, then it is touching to be able to meet each other again. It just comes to my mind of an old friend who was an elder for so many years and who is already many years in heaven. I never will forget when he told us that at one time one of his sons was in the army, and they received tidings that he was missing in action. What went through his heart can not be understood unless we have experienced similar things. How the devil attacked him intimating that he would never see his son again, and for some time they heard nothing. Later they received a message that he was well and on the way home. That old friend said, “I have not sung so many times in my life, but that day I sang all day long to praise the Lord from whom all blessings flow”. There are times in the life of God’s people that they have no other desire than to abase themselves and to exalt the Triune God. Life is a shadow and we fly away. I have just heard that elder R. Van Vliet of Unionville has passed away. We were shocked to hear it. I spoke with him at the Synod three weeks ago. Who would have thought that one of the delegates would so soon be in eternity. May the Lord strengthen the widow, children, and all the relatives, and sanctify God’s ways. Oh young and old, that we all may learn the prayer of Moses, “Oh teach thou us to count our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom’s ways.” That we in our life may truly need that greater Joseph, Who taught his brethren to confess their guilt and Who is also able to forgive their guilt. Joseph did not reveal himself so quick. The brethren has to first learn that it was a bitter thing to sin against a well-doing God, before that Joseph re-vealed himself unto them. We may say that the greater Joseph is yet alive. May the Lord remember all our mission workers, and that He would give prayer for the spreading out of His kingdom.
