The excellent book EVOLUTION OR CREATION by Prof. H. Enoch is written primarily for University students, and thus may be somewhat difficult for many of our readers. It is to help them that this account is written.

Evolution is only an idea or a theory, not a fact. The more one knows of Biology, the more impossible it becomes to beheve that evolution could have happened. Also it becomes impossible to believe that the wonderful, complex, orderly make-up of the cell of a plant or an animal could ever come into existence without a Maker. It is also surprising that so many people teach or believe in evolution until one realises that the facts against evolution are so seldom known.

Only those who are told that man descended from animals as if it were an established fact, know the mental anxiety and serious misgivings that such a remark can cause. They assume of course that the thing must have been proved or it would not be said. Nothing could be further form the truth, however. There is not a single proof of evolution on the earth. For more than 100 years, since Darwin first wrote his book, “Origin of Species”, tremendous efforts have been made to find proofs of it, but all without success. Not one proof has been found. Sir Arthur Keith, a world-famous evolutionist, said “Evolution is unproved and unprovable”. T. H. Huxley, another world-famous evolutionist speaking of fossils found in he rocks, says, ‘If evolution has taken place, there will its mark be left; if it has not taken place, there will be its refutation.’ Now, instead of finding the many millions of fossils showing a gradual transformation from various species to others, which Darwin and his followers expected to find, not a single fossil showing transformation has ever been found. The fossils do not show transformation. Instead, all fossils appear as distinct species just as they are today, with no intermediate forms between them. So, according to Huxley evolution has not taken place. The most famous range of fossils brought forward by evolutionists is wrongly called “the horse series.” No such series exists as such in the rocks, but is simply made up by man arranging them in some order from choice. Thus there are some 30 man-arranged “series’ all different, all supposed to be showing the evolution of the horse. Since, however these fossils were collected from various parts of the earth, they do not form a natural series and so prove nothing. Secondly, they cannot even be proved to be related to each other, but appear to be mostly extinct forms of some horse-like creatures probably destroyed by the flood. Thirdly, traces of ‘modern horse” have been found in rocks older than any of them, so they could not be ancestors of ‘modern horse’. Lastly, if they were its ancestors it would not be evolution, but what all Creationists accept, namely, variation within the kind. Evolution is totally different, namely transformation from one species to another. This confused thinking is also seen where evolutionists claim to have discovered “evolution before our eyes.” Here they say the increase in the number of dark moths in industrial areas, called “industrial melanism” is a case of evolution. This is nothing of the sort, because the changes all occur if at all inside the species, not from one species to another. It is probably not even variation, but migration to a suitable area, by the black moths. The same argument about gulls fails, as the gulls all remain gulls, whatever their colours.

The ridiculous ages claimed for anything found in the ground have been well demonstrated lately. The Coelacanth was said to have been extinct for 100,000,000 years, until some live ones were caught a few years ago. In 1912 Piltdown Man was claimed to be an apeman of 500,000 years ago and for many years was regarded by some as the most important find in the world. Later it was dated at 50,000 years ago, but when chemically analysed not long ago, the cranium was said to be 500 years old, and the jaw-bone out of a modern chimpanzee of about 10 years of age. It was then recognised as a fake. The Java ‘apeman’ consisted of a human thigh-bone and a gibbon’s skull for 30 years until the finder confessed that he had found human skulls at the same time as he had found the thigh-bone. So this was also a hoax. Drawings in a London newspaper showed a hairy, slouching man and woman called Hesperopithecus, ‘found” in America. Ultimately it came to light that all that was found was a single tooth, and this was later recognised to be an extinct pig’s tooth. And man has been found in deposits earlier, i.e. deeper, than his supposed ancestors. Methods of dating vary from guesswork and estimating, to Carbon 14 dating. This is often believed by students to be accurate. It has now been shown to be unreliable in a number of cases, giving an age of thousands of years to a tree still growing, and is believed to be quite unreliable for dates of more than 4,500 years ago.

Evolutionists and many geologists accept estimates of millions of years for different strata of the earth’s crust. It is a fact, however, that all strata which contain fossils, are sedimentary, that is water-laid, and a glance at pages 22–31 of Prof. Enoch’s book, will convince any open-minded person that the most likely explanation of all this is that these layers of silt were washed into position by the Flood, and laid there, burying the drowned animals in materials which could fossilise them.

Coal has been seen to form in a matter of minutes when timbers were subjected to pressure and friction. This again would suggest that trees were washed into place by tidal waves at the time of the flood, and the trees, subjected to thousands of tons of pressure and great friction, would turn to coal immediately, otherwise they would have rotted. When a single tree stands up through several seams, the seams must all have been laid in a very short space of time, by consecutive waves.

If we are given grace to avoid or turn away from the “oppositions of science, falsely so called”, proofs abound in plenty that these oppositions are based upon suppositions and assumptions of men, which means that they are not true or factual science.

The facts favour creation.

A man should never be ashamed of owning he has been wrong, for it is but saying in other words, he is so much wiser today than he was yesterday.
